Friends of Gillespie(FoG) is the parent teacher association for Gillespie Primary School, a small, vibrant, inner-city community school in Highbury, north London, with pupils from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. FoG raises funds to support the school and aims to help provide the best possible learning environment for the children. We do this by organising and supporting fun social & educational events such as a summer fair, Halloween party, quiz nights, an international food evening and theatre and other off-site trips (including a Christmas pantomime trip for the whole school) and an annual sponsored run/cycle ride for the children. FoG has helped transform the school playground into a stimulating learning environment and is currently focussing on Gillespie School’s trailblazing Lab_13 primary science scheme. Many of the children speak English as a second language and around 17% are eligible for free school meals. Neighbourhood Networks in Scotland Ltd (UK, SC028984) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Neighbourhood Networks has been supporting vulnerable people since 2001. A charity based in Glasgow which supports vulnerable adults, many with learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities and older people to live an independent life, safely, within their own homes and to be fully involved within their local communities. To this end we facilitate peer support networks amongst people who are otherwise socially isolated. Upskilling our members so they can help and support each other and be less reliant on paid support. We have 24 Networks supporting almost 200 members across Central Belt of Scotland. Each of our members are supported to develop their own personal plan which focuses on independent travel, money management, life skills as well as building friendships and relationships. Our members are encouraged to share their skills and offer support to other members within their own networks, as well as people in networks across the organisation. The outcomes for our members are a better quality of life: they are safer, stronger, more confident and able to live independently in their own homes. They will learn to travel independently. They are no longer isolated and lonely, and they themselves are sharing these new skills with the other members- skills such as cooking, safety at home along with offering guidance around the dangers of the internet. Our members are reaching out and offering the chance of friendships and companionship to other vulnerable groups around them. Together, we hope to break down barriers which often exist for people with disabilities. We hope to inspire people, create a feeling of acceptance and belonging, a sense of neighbourly involvement and to re energise neighbourly connections.

My main charity is Action on Bladder Cancer or ABC. My dad passed away in January 2014 from bladder cancer. It is horrible to watch someone you love deteriorate in such a painful way. In the UK 10,000 people are diagnosed with bladder cancer, it is the 4th most common in men and 11th most common in women, so with your donation we would like to help ABC in their fight against bladder cancer.
