The SSEF also supports Galactic Challenges for 10 -13 year olds held at schools. The National Challenge pits 240 15-16 year old students against each other in 5 companies of 48 students each. The students spend a weekend designing and presenting their results to 12 judges from industry, government and Space Agencies including NASA and the UK Space Agency. The winning company selects 12 students to represent them in the International finals in Houston at NASA. The SSEF also runs a ESA Challenge and sends 12 EU students to the NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The challenge is an industry simulation that gives students experience in communication, engineering and management. The competition is supported by Imperial College London, The UK Space Agency, Dangoor Education, the Royal Academy of Engineering and several other government and organizations including the Royal Society. It is unique in that students are given a request for settlement design but limited adult supervision. it is truly remarkable what they achieve. Amberley Scout Group (UK, 267343) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

We are raising funds to replace our dilapidated and outdated Scout headquarters. Our thriving and expanding Group celebrated its centenary last year – with its premises located in an old abandoned quarry, on National Trust land. This safe and idyllic location provides the perfect place for exciting and challenging activities for its 85 young members; plus for the Guide Troop and others who use it.Planning and other permissions have been granted for these necessary rebuilding works. Please visit our Facebook site to learn more (link below). One hundred years ago, a small group of boys met in a painters’ shed at Frogmarsh Mill inSouth Woodchester. They were part of what has now become the largest family of adventure seeking children in the world, inspired by their founder, Lord Baden Powell. They were the Amberley Scout Troop, number 1181 and had come from homes throughout Amberley, Woodchester and the Minchinhampton area to develop life skills and values outside the rigours of school. To this day those values of loyalty, honour and duty are as precious as they were then, which is why we need your help.Having moved to the current site at Jackdaw Quarry up Culver Hill in 1915, Amberley ScoutGroup is in dire need of a new Headquarters. Planning Permission has been granted for abuilding to be constructed over the existing footprint. Please help us reach our goal.
