The 5th is a Scout Group of around 170 beavers, cubs and scouts, in 6 sections, enthusiastically providing scouting activities and fun in Farnham for almost 100 years. The ‘Magic Carpet’ appeal has been set up to fund the replacement of the Taylor Hall’s carpet, which is beyond repair. The Taylor Hall is the hub of the life of the Scout Group, where all our indoor activities take place. It is a valuable resource, but when large ‘one-off’ jobs like the carpet need to be done it feels like a big responsibility maintaining the property as well as funding all the activities we want to do. It will be well used!

The tragic news of the fire at Clandon House has been widely reported on all media. What is less well known is that Clandon House was the home to the Surrey infantry Museum showcasing the Counties link to local Infantry regiments from the mid 17th Century through to the modern day. Principally covering the Queens Royal Regiment and the East Surrey Regiment. Through to the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. The museum displays held regimental items of interest including uniforms, paintings, photographs, medal collections and other unique memorabilia. One of the items potentially lost is one of the regimental footballs used by Lt Neville on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, one of only two still in existence. At this early stage the future of the display is uncertain, however we are keen to raise funds so that as many items as possible are put on public display in the future.
