In May 2015 Hannah Francis was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer. At the time Hannah was 17 years old and intent on pursuing her dream of riding at the top level of eventing. The diagnosis initially gave some hope with extensive use of chemotherapy, but, as Hannah says “now we know it is more likely to be a case of keeping on dreaming big, fighting hard and never, ever giving up – no matter what this evil disease continues to throw at us”. In the last year she has turned her overwhelming determination to, as she puts it, “#kickingcancersbutt” and inspiring people with her drive and determination. But she doesn’t do it alone. Shortly after her diagnosis Hannah was given a stuffed toy pony, to become known as Willberry the Wonder Pony. Now Hannah and Willberry devote much of their time and energy to raising money for charity and what started as a local effort to raise funds to buy Hannah a decent wig after losing her hair, is now a formal charity – Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony Charity – established and driven by Hannah to raise funds for bone cancer research and to grant equine related wishes to seriously ill people and their families. And she says that, long term, the charity will be her legacy, “Even when the day comes that I won’t be able to get up in the morning I want you to continue to keep fighting for me so together we can beat cancer.”

The new room we would like to build will be called ‘The Valley Room’ and will be a multi-use learning space but it will predominately be used for music lessons, the Breakfast and After School Club and 1:1 learning which is so important for the children. Currently music lessons and 1:1 learning can happen in far from ideal locations such as in corridors or meeting rooms. This room will also be used by the local community too during non-school time by holiday and music clubs and so it will not just benefit the School children but the wider community too. The MASIC Foundation aims to reduce the incidence of birth injury as well as helping new mothers who may be suffering in silence from its symptoms which are too often hidden in society. These issues are crucial to the future wellbeing of women and their families. The MASIC foundation aims to help these mothers who often suffer in silence through embarrassment and the social stigma associated to their symptoms, unaware that there are many other mothers going through what they are experiencing. MASIC campaigns to influence change in healthcare policies to avoid these injuries, improve their detection and where possible improve the rate of repairs after birth, so more women are spared the indignity of anal incontinence. MASIC has a plan based on greater support for mothers, increased public awareness and better education for medical professionals. MASIC will be developing a regional structure in the UK and Ireland to promote a care pathway, educational policies and research. The MASIC Foundation receives no statutory funding and can only run with the help of our supporters. Your donation will help us to support and reduce the number of women living with bowel incontinence following childbirth.
