Beacon Counselling (UK, 1109545) Browse events

YTD Raised: £6,346.97

Beacon Counselling exists to improve the lives of adults, young people, and children who experience mental and emotional distress. To achieve this aim we provide a range of counselling and related services across the borough of Stockport and beyond. We work from GP practices and community centres, schools and pupil referral units, other charities and our own base in Stockport. This flexibility means we can respond to people where and when they need us, and we support around 1500 people each year via a range of targeted services. The work we do is effective. We know it is because the people we support tell us, and the monitoring forms we use show significant improvements. Over 85% of the people who make use of Beacon show an improvement, and the main benefits people experience are reductions in the levels of depression and anxiety, increase in the levels of well-being, confidence and self-esteem, and improvements in relationships with family, friends and colleagues. Above all, what people tell us is they have gained the skills and resilience which means they don't think they will need our help again. A team of over 60 counsellors - mostly volunteers - provide all our services, and the quality of their work is overseen by a team of 11 casework supervisors and the general manager. A team of part-time appointments administrators support counsellors by making and rearranging all appointments on our adults service. Beacon has a board of 7 trustees, who ensure the overall quality of its services. The different Beacon makes in people's lives, coupled with the quality of services and excellent value for money, was recognised in 2012 with Beacon winning a Glaxo-SmithKline IMPACT award.

Edinburgh Zoo is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland. With almost 1,000 wild animals to see and over 80 acres of beautiful parkland, the Zoo offers a fantastic day out. Based at Kincraig near Aviemore, the Highland Wildlife Park is more of an experience than a visitor attraction. YTD Raised: £6,326.65

Sudden cardiac arrest claims around 100,000 lives each year in the United Kingdom, with survival rates being around 5% - 10% outside of a hospital setting. If a person’s heart has stopped due to an accident or heart attack and is in a rhythm called ventricular fibrillation, the only way to get the heart into a more regular sustaining beat is to pass an electrical charge through the heart muscle. The first three to four minutes are the most vital for the collapsed person and, if Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and a DEFIBRILLATOR are available, then the chance of survival will increase considerably. Help us to make a difference in YOUR community.
