Mary's An independent charity created by St Mary Islington to serve the local community   We run a Youth Club, Pre-school and Holiday Play Schemes  as well as providing a welcoming meeting space service for local community groups and other organisations. We are based in Crypt and Neighbourhood Centre at St Mary's Church on Upper Street in Islington. All of these services are self-funding apart from our Youth Club, where we have relied on funds generated by our hire of meeting rooms in combination with a grant from Islington Council.  However, this grant will soon come to an end. In order to be able to continue with our youth work, we urgently need donations. With the help of your donations we can continue with our Youth Club’s valuable work. As an example, £220 would fund a dance or drama session for  a month for young people to develop their creativity – or a non-contact boxing session to develop resilience and confidence. £250  would fund a CV carrier planning and employability workshop for a month £550 would fund a driving theory course including tests for 12 which proved so popular earlier this year £2000 would fund a co-producer for 4 months’ work experience

Jill's Fundraising Journey (UK, 1160327) Browse events

Jill Goodrum, 46, was a wife, mother and grandmother who was diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes and liver; it was terminal. Her attitude was to not only fight the cancer but also to raise £10,000 to be shared between two charities. She also wished to raise awareness because if her diagnosis had come earlier, the outlook would have been very different. She achieved these aims through a Facebook page named Jill's Fundraising Journey (www.facebook.com/jillsfundraisingjourney). Devastatingly, Jill passed away on the 21st of May 2014, just 8 months after receiving the initial diagnosis. The £10,000 target was smashed nearly exactly a year to the day that Jill was diagnosed, just a few short months after her death. Jill left behind five children, Grace, 4, Amy, 8, Jemma, 20, Lyndsey, 27 and James, 29, as well as four grandchildren Elowen, 1, Sofia, 1, Amelie, 4 and Ella, 9. Her two eldest daughters have carried on her story, setting up Jill's Fundraising Journey as a charity in it's own right to continue raising awareness. They also wish to realise two of Jill's dreams through the charity, the first to have a book published of her journey, the second to open a holiday home for cancer sufferers and their families. Jill was made only too aware of how cancer does not only affect the person diagnosed, especially if there are young children in the family. Lyndsey and Jemma are extremely proud to now be able to offer the book of Jill's journey up for order. It is an emotional insight into cancer, the effects it has on a person's mental and physical state, as well as the effects of the family following the death of a loved one. It is 'the ugly truth of cancer'. All profits from the book, as well as other promotional items available on the fundraising page, go straight back into jfj with the aim of realising Jill's second dying wish. Jill's words: "Reach for the moon and dare to hope."

The Scout Hall at Port Edgar marina is the main focal point for all units within the Group. We are an active group, with weekly meetings, regular camps around the Queensferry area, as well as an annual overseas Summer camp. The main aim of the Scout Executive is to assist all units and ensure that the Scout Hall is maintained for use by other users. We also aim to assist in fundrasing activities. An Royal Air Force Air Cadet Squadron, for young people aged 12 to 20, guiding them in Team building, life skills, aviation subjects and character building. The ATC is an organisation born during 1941 to give guidance and training to young people in leadership and good citizenship, along with promoting an interest in aviation and in the RAF. 1227 (Sidcup) Sqn was founded on 14th March 1941. Throughout its history, the Sqn has moved all around Chislehurst and Sidcup and seen thousands of cadets pass through, building up their character and giving them useful skills to use in life, whether they go on to join the services, or lead a civilian life. Today, we are one of the largest of 34 squadrons in Kent and meet in our newly constructed building, located on Old Farm Road East, Sidcup. We have around 60 cadets on role and continue to participate in a number of activities. We pride ourselves in having always been a very successful squadron with an extremely positive and encouraging ethos and atmosphere.
