(UK, 279777) Browse eventsBasildon Women's Aid is a charitable organisation providing a refuge for women and their children who have been victims of domestic violence, which may be physical, mental or sexual. Many hundreds of women have taken refuge with us since the refuge opened in 1977. The refuge offers an escape route from violence and a chance to seek alternatives to a life of danger, isolation and fear. BWA offers temporary accommodation for women of all ages, races and cultures, with or without children. The refuge is a communal home with shared facilities for twelve families, we also have a total of sixteen self-contained units of accommodation for families. Our residents pay an accommodation fee and the remainder of our funding comes from public funding, fund-raising and charitable donations. Our experienced staff offer support to families to enable them to move on and live a life free of abuse together with a range of activities for the children from fun outings and parties to therapeutic programmes of support. Some women, despite suffering domestic abuse, do not wish to leave home, and they are supported through our Outreach Centre and satellite surgeries in Brentwood, Castle Point and Rochford. We also offer an extensive programme of talks and training sessions to voluntary and statutory organisations and schools. Our trained refuge and outreach staff, as well as offering support and advice on welfare, housing, schooling, legal and women’s rights, encourage women to regain a sense of worth.

After the recently completed circumnavigation of Britain, the end goal of this first stage of the project may have been the sailing trip, but the trip itself is the prize. The real focus of the project is the life-skills that must be acquired to get to this point. It is these life-skills that are so important in broadening the opportunities of these young people as they move forward in life.

The Company is the only body to represent all those involved in the study, curation, collection and trade in antiques, antiquities and objects of decorative and applied art; we also welcome those involved in related services. We gained official status as a Guild within the City of London in April 2005 and were recognised by the Court of Aldermen as a Company without Livery in September 2010. One of our principal objects is to build a Charitable Trust so that we can, for example: - provide educational bursaries for young peiople; - encourage and support historical projects within the City of London, including its museums and other similar organisations; - assist individuals and groups connected with the professions and trade; - provide for needy members of the Company and their immediate families; - preserve our heritage for future generations; - support the Lord Mayor, Shrievalty and Aldermen of the City of London Corporation. CASDAC has already sponsored the publication and launch of several academic books, supported courses on the care of valuable collections of works of art and on historical subjects and given grants to conservation students. We intend to create a separate Educational Charitable Fund to increase the scope of educational aid in relation to antiques, antiquities and the decorative and applied arts. Your support for CASDAC's Charitable Trust will enable us to grow this important work which is so much appreciated by those who benefit from it. We too appreciaite your help.

(UK, 1150063) Browse eventsTHE SUNITA TREACHER FOUNDATION The Sunita Treacher Foundation was set up to provide School Fees for children in Uganda who otherwise would not be able to attend school. All fees are paid directly to the schools involved and the Foundation provides a range of support, from making a contribution to School Fees to paying the entire amount plus paying for other requirements – uniforms, trips for example. Where possible, the Foundation expects parents or other relatives to make a contribution to the costs of sending their children to school – and for the parents to have a lifestyle enabling them to save what little money they may have to contribute to their child’s education. It is no good for parents to squander their money while the Foundation is paying the costs. Children are sponsored from Nursery through Seniour 6, and in a few deserving cases beyond. The goal is to get the children educated and economically active so they will be in a position to give something back – by helping those children who come after them. The Foundation monitors the performance of the children carefully, both to ensure attendance to keep track of their progress in terms of academic performance and social development. We try to instil in the children that they are very fortunate to get the opportunity to attend school – unlike so many others. The Foundation was set up by Sunita Treacher who is passionate about education as a way out of poverty for children in Uganda. While an education is no guarantee of success, a lack of education is certainly a bar to any kind of progress. Without education, children will be condemned, at best, to being day labourers or house girls, for example. These are low paid, if at all, and offer extremely limited chances for social progress. Therefore, education is key. The Foundation relies on donations from the public and the efforts of its unpaid staff who contribute their time and energy, particularly in Uganda, to make the Foundation a success. PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY The Sunita Treacher Foundation needs to raise £15,000 per year to fund the needs of the children it supports in Uganda. We have decided to work with Virgin Giving as a way to access more donors and get the message across to a wider audience. Please give what you can. It costs about £600 per year to send a child to school. That is not a lot, at least compared to school fees in the United Kingdom, and getting an education in Uganda makes a HUGELY POSITIVE impact on a child’s life. We thank you in advance for your support.
