Akamba Aid works in the north-east province of Kenya, in the Horn of Africa, one of the most arid parts of the world, among some of the poorest people in Africa. Most are living on an income of less than one dollar (60p) a day. Famine is a constant neighbour, and needless to say because of the poverty, basic Education and Healthcare are difficult to afford. Since 1999 Akamba Aid, a small Somerset based charity has been trying to give the communities some of the basic essentials of life, that we enjoy and have done for generations. WHAT DO WE DO? Clean Water Together with our sister charity the "Wishing for a Well Appeal" we construct shallow wells (60 - 100ft. deep) and fit Afridev hand pumps in suitable locations to provide clean, fresh, safe water, for the first time. For many this is the first time they have tasted water free from the many diseases which contaminate the traditional sources. Food In times of drought and famine we provide emergency food aid rations to poor families, especially the elderly, children and orphans. This is to supplement the rations given by Kenyan government and UN supplies. Affordable Healthcare We build new health facilities and support several others with building maintenance and equipment. Our "Harambee" scheme offers discount cards to the poor to halve the cost of out-patient treatment at rural clinics, and pays the premium of the state NHIF insurance scheme which gives free in-patient care at state hospitals. Education Primary education is now compulsory and "free" in Kenya, although buildings and equipment must be provided by the communities who suffer from poverty. AAF builds new classrooms for schools where needed to a higher standard and helps with equipment. We also have a small number of bright students who receive assisted sponsorships at secondary schools. 2009-09-02

Parish Resources exists to support clergy, church workers and the vast network of volunteers who together keep churches and the Church open to the whole community. We provide resources to help you encourage giving (churchgoers give over £500m each year to their churches), connect generosity with faith and discipleship, fundraise successfully, comply with charity law and good practice, and manage your projects more effectively (churchgoers give 23million hours each month to community projects). We also offer dedicated sites to help you with legacy giving (www.churchlegacy.org.uk) and procurement (www.parishbuying.org.uk; here you can save money, time and stress by buying essentials through nationally-vetted competitive deals). We try to offer as many resources to parishes as we can for free. However, we would really appreciate a thank-offering if you find the resources on our websites useful. We would also be very grateful if you are able to make a donation towards the cost of printing and postage when we send you resources by post. Your donation will enable us to maintain and improve the quality of our resources, and make sure that we can keep offering most of them for free. This is really important so that any parish or project, no matter how new or small, is able to access support for its vital work.We welcome all donations, however large or small, and will use them to support stewardship in the local church.Thank you. Creating Futures, A charity for children and young people in Rushmoor. Our mission is simple, we aim to improve our communities by supporting children and young people to overcome barriers, through raising aspiration and enabling achievement. Established in April 2014 we have developed as a charity from the seeds of a project called The Gaming Zone, which has been around since 2007. Initially a youth club for young people living in one of the top 20% areas of deprivation in England our intention was clear, providing opportunities for young people to stay off the streets in a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where they could play the latest consoles, access the internet and be safe. 5 years later we became a social enterprise TGZ C.I.C (community interest company) and a little over 2 years later our organic growth has blossomed into the charity that aims to support all children and young people in Rushmoor and especially those facing adversity, crisis, challenges and those who are vulnerable. You can still visit our TGZ CIC website for information about all our projects that were developed under The Gaming Zone umbrella and will now be under the secure wing of the Creating Futures charity. We work with hundreds of children and young people each week and also offer a range of support services which you can read all about on this site. We work with many agencies and organisations such as Rushmoor Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, First Wessex, Sentinel, Children’s Services, Adult Services, the Supporting Families programme, other youth groups and youth focussed organisations and many many more!
CWK supports Cheryls Childrens Home in Nairobi, set up and run by local people for vulnerable children. By providing shelter, food, clean water, love, security and an education, the home offers children hope of finding a route out of their desperate situation. The majority of children supported by Cherish Watoto Kenya are cared for by foster families organised and overseen by Cheryls. A small number of children who have experienced abuse, violence or abandonment can live in safety at Cheryls. Education is a crucial step towards a child’s future. Children of primary school age are taught by school staff whose salaries are funded by CWK. Funding is also provided so that children of secondary school age can continue their education at high schools around the country and then progress onto University level where appropriate. How You Can Help! All the work CWK do is achieved through charitable giving. Child Sponsorship For child sponsorship, please use the Make a monthly donation link and then set-up a regular donation for £27. You can also follow the link Sponsor a child... for more information. “Proud of our Past, Building our Future” St. Peter’s is a one form entry C of E Primary School in Hammersmith. We have 210 wonderful pupils who speak more than 30 languages between them. We were established in 1849 by Lucy Hannah Scott as one of the first charity schools in west London. Whilst we are in the middle of a building programme that is being funded by the LDBS & the Local Authority. the school itself needs to raise approximately £300k extra to pay for ‘additional requirements’ such as improved playground space, outside learning areas, a learning kitchen, where children will be taught to prepare simple meals, up to date IT provision, Audio Visual equipment for the new Hall and all the equipment for the dedicated Art, Science & Technology room that is being built. Fundraising has already started in earnest as the children, staff, parents & governors are passionate about this exciting project but this is a significant amount to raise from a one form entry school where there is a finite amount that our parents and immediate community can contribute, therefore we are seeking all the help that we can get!
