Beannachar is a training centre in Aberdeenshire for 36 young adults with learning disabilities aged 17 to 30 (18 residential students;18 day placements).We support each person to reach their fullest potential and become as independent as possible for their next step in life. Students take part in structured work sessions such as workshops in weaving, woodwork & sculpture; organic farming; maintenance of gardens & woodlands; and ‘Tools for Self-Reliance’ (national partnership where we refurbish old tools and send to African countries). Students also contribute to running their homes such as cooking meals, and have time in the evenings/weekends for exercise, hobbies and outings. This helps students to develop their skills, independence and feel purpose and belonging to the wider community.
