Our best-known event is the annual Great Knaresborough Bed Race on the second Saturday in June. The Knaresborough Lions have had full responsibility for organising it since 1999. We have a calendar of other fun and fundraising events through the year, including the Knaresborough Lions Beer Festival and touring the town with Santa and his sleigh before Christmas. We help run the Knaresborough Christmas Market, together with the Chamber of Trade and the Rotary Club. We run a popular mulled wine stall at the Christmas Market and also at Knaresborough's annual Bright Friday event in late November. From the funds we raise, we give donations to help with particular needs of local charities, sports clubs, medical facilities and other organisations. We support initiatives in schools and community centres, and help individuals and families facing hardship. At Christmas, we help with funding and distributing food parcels for the elderly, and we run an afternoon tea for those who might otherwise be on their own. We also volunteer as marshals and stewards at many community events in the local area. You can often see us in our distinctive tabards - do come and say hello!
Grace Advocacy offers a free advocacy service for people struggling with multiple complex problems. We help them navigate the bureaucracy, fill in the forms, defend their rights, challenge unfair decisions, deal with unaffordable debt and bills, and find ways to get the care they need.
People with neurological conditions have issues relating to mobility, balance, pain, communication and isolation. Most of these conditions are incurable, some are progressive. Exercise is easier and more effective in warm water - for some it is the only way they can exercise.

With over 180 riders each week, supported by 120 volunteers, we want to ensure that Cotswold RDA is “where aspirations become a reality” for everyone. Everyone of our riders all have a disability whether physical, mental or a learning difficulty, but we help them achieve the best they can whatever the disability or age. Riders like Kai who is 5, a wheelchair user with complex emotional issues and in long term fostering. At first he was apprehensive of riding but built a rapport with volunteers. Riding became a focus for him. The continuity and routine had a huge impact on his learning, behaviour and emotional state. His confidence grew as did his core strength and now he can walk independently to his horse and mount confidently. At school he gets out of his wheelchair and sits at a desk. His teachers report a real step change in confidence and how he engages with education. And as Kai says “riding is fun!” We hope you find the brief outline of our work as inspiring as we do; your generosity will ensure we can continue to provide this amazing service in the years to come.Thankyou for your support. (UK, 1145318) Browse eventsBlossom Trust is a UK registered charity (no. 1145318) was started in the year 2012. The primary mission is "Enabling communities by educating children and empowering women." The trust started with a motivation to help disadvantaged children and has since expanded projects into education, mental health and empowering women to achieve this objective. Women and children have been through unimaginable struggles, several of whom have been victims of catastrophic effects of the civil war in Sri Lanka. Most of the families are headed by widowed women who are living in extreme poverty. Trust wants them to sustain their livelihood by allowing them to gain regular income and reduce their dependency on others by sustainable water facilities and from growing coconut plantation & other cash crops. By strengthening and sustaining their own household income, the war affected women will have an increased opportunity to lead a more independent family life. Trust is also committed to support underprivileged undergraduate students from Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka who abandon their degree courses due to lack of funds for their upkeep.
