Cicely Saunders International was set up in 2002 by Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of modern palliative care. We fund research to improve care and treatment of all patients with progressive illness so that high quality palliative care is available to everyone who needs it, in hospice, hospital or at home. In collaboration with King's College London we established the world's first purpose built institute of palliative care, the Cicely Saunders Institute, in south London. The Institute carries out research, education and training, and provides an Information Support Centre for patients and their families. At the entrance is Dame Cicely's famous quote ""You matter because you are you, and you matter to the last moment of your life." Help us continue our research into effective treatments and holistic care, and provide education and training for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals looking after patients and their families.
