The People Matter Charitable Trust was set up by local Christians in 1997 to provide quality information, advice and guidance and practical help to jobseekers in Eastbourne and surrounding areas. We exist so that people have an opportunity to find or retain meaningful and satisfying work through personal support, practical help, information, advice, guidance and encouragement. We provide a personalised service over the course of several hourly sessions. The initial session is spent getting to know the jobseeker, understanding their skills and type of work they are suited for and explaining the further help available. Our highly skilled team of advisers provide help with CV writing, career guidance, business start-up advice, job search, applications and letters to employers. We can also arrange a mock interview with feedback. We offer a wide range of workshops and training opportunities and a popular Job Club. Prospective employers like our service because they find that applicants are job-ready and potentially suitable for employment.

Gorgie Church has been involved in the work of Bethany Christian Trust Care Shelter for many years. The Care Shelter began in Edinburgh as a two week pilot and has grown over the years in response to the need. Until December 2018, the Care Shelter used different church venues and guests slept on mats on the floor. Following the union of Stenhouse Church and Gorgie Dalry Church in 2016, GDS Church was formed and an additional buildings acquired at Stenhouse. After prayerful discussion, Bethany Christian Trust was offered the use of the sanctuary at Stenhouse as a regular Care Shelter. The offer was accepted and the new fixed venue opened its doors on the 21st December. GDS church spent £220.000 refurbishing the building including a new extension to house a toilet block and showers all fully accessible. Pews removed and replaced with 75 single beds with blankets and pillows, laundry facilities allowing care staff to wash towels and linen in-house. The guests are delighted to be coming to the same venue each evening and find Diadem a peaceful place with a unique atmosphere. Over 1000 volunteers from more than 70 churches across Edinburgh provide a two course meal each night. However the kitchen is very basic and has proved to be a challenge. Phase 2 included upgrading the kitchen and existing toilet facilities, the cost has been estimated at £190,000 and we need your help to continue the work. Together we can help relieve the suffering of people who are homeless.

Established in 2008 to improve the lives of families living in poverty in 3 rural villages situated between Siem Reap town and Tonle Sap lake. Little of the tourist dollar from the 5 million tourists who visit Cambodia reach these villages and 1/3 of the population are poor or near poor*GHCC aims to support local families to keep children in education and support children with a disability who live in Siem Reap province through our education programme. *(Royal Cambodian Government - Ministry of Interior) Grace House Community Centre (GHCC) believes strongly that children thrive and flourish within their family and supported by the village. Many children in Cambodia are placed in orphanages as parents believe the child will receive a better education and there is one less mouth to feed. UNICEF report three out of four Cambodian “orphans” have at least one living parent or close family member. Numerous reports have concluded that children fail to thrive in an institution and in Siem Reap the children in orphanages are often used as a tourist attraction. GHCC past students are now active members of their community and proud to support their families. We do this by providing :-Support to remain in state educationEnglish language programme enabling access to employment and further educationScholarships for university or vocational trainingFood aid, safe homes, sanitation & clean waterMicro loans for small businessChildren with a Disability education and respite programmeSocial enterprise for womenSocial work supportChild ProtectionOlder persons programme Charity No: 1155678 Find out more Website http://www.gracehousecambodia.net Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GraceHouseCambodia/?ref=bookmarks Twitter https://twitter.com/ghccCambodia YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxsXzVfzPiqMn6b7OcVJ9Og
