The new skills that partners acquire, help to build confidence and communication, assisting with their integration in the wider community. Street Pastors Leicester City Centre (UK, 1131179) Browse events

We are a Christian project made up of people from different churches around Leicester. We volunteer on the streets to reach out to all people showing compassion, care, and helping to create a positive atmosphere in our city at nighttime. We are there to listen and help rather than to ‘preach’ and we will only talk about our faith if someone directly asks us about it. Some of the things we do includes throwing glass bottles in bins so they do not get used as weapons, chatting with people who are out for a fun night, staying with a vulnerable adult until their friends or member of their family arrives, giving directions, giving details of support agencies in Leicester, handing out blankets to those most in need of them, giving flip flops to ladies who are walking barefoot so they do not cut their feet, being extra pairs of hands, ears or eyes in the event of an incident

Bansang Hospital Appeal (UK, 1064469) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The object of the Bansang Hospital Appeal is to provide material, financial and in-kind support to Bansang Hospital and the people of the surrounding area. The projects focus area is the Upper River Division of The Gambia, West Africa. The hospital serves 500,000 people, many of whom travel from as far as Mali, Guinea and Senegal. The Bansang Hospital Appeal assists through the ongoing provision of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian aid, along with the sponsorship of staff and volunteers from the UK. The appeal has recently constructed a new 80 bed children’s unit, 48 bed female ward and the hospitals own maintenance team have constructed an obstetric theatre. Retention of staff is an urgent requirement and the key to the ongoing success of the hospital. We are addressing this urgent need in phases, with the current capital expenditure projects focussing upon the provision of decent staff accommodation. To this end, we have refurbished 27 staff units, along with the complete renovation of the old colonial house that sits on the hospital land. The latter facility now provides bedsitting and guest rooms for staff and visiting volunteers, as well as conferencing facilities for visiting professionals. The charity places a keen emphasis upon long-term project sustainability.
