It became a charity community organisation in September 1996 and registered under the number 1064874/0 of the Charity Commission. Our aim is to relieve poverty, sickness and distress amongst immigrants of African descent by providing such persons with free and confidential advice, advocacy, assistance, representation, counselling, translating and interpreting services in matters such as education, employment, health, housing, immigration, money, social security, training, welfare and workfare. Our activities consist in the provision of services on the issues mentioned above. Most of these activities take place at our drop-in office but we also undertake outreach visits to homes, hostels, hospitals, immigration detention centres, etc. Our volunteers provide support to newly arrived asylum seekershelping them to accompany to GPs, social services and the immigration services to provide advocacy and interpretation. We also organise workshops, seminars and mother tongue and supplementary classes. We provide support and counselling to young people who have experienced trauma, atrocities...and now work with partners in the Great Lakes Region as we can deliver activities outside the United Kingdom.
