The National Biodiversity Network has been championing the sharing of biological data since 2000. We are the UK’s largest partnership for nature and hold more than 219 million wildlife records available through the NBN Atlas - the largest species data base for any country in the world. The Network’s priority is to grow the national commitment to sharing biological data and information. Through this we will provide a comprehensive, unparalleled and authoritative understanding of our natural world and will use that knowledge effectively to educate and inform. The NBN vision is that: “Biological data collected and shared openly by the Network are central to the UK’s learning and understanding of its biodiversity and are critical to all decision-making about nature and the environment.” To achieve that vision the Network must deliver improvements to the recording, collection, verification, curation, aggregation, analysis and use of biological data in the UK. This information is vital if we are to understand the distribution and abundance of species and habitats; without it, making informed decisions on how to protect the UK’s wildlife is much more difficult.

After 61 year’s service, the school pool’s failed on health & safety :-( Do we let it go under (most surrounding schools have had to let their pools go)? Or do we hold onto a vision of every child a swimmer? :-) Our head teacher, Miss Cameron, is doing a sponsored night in the (empty) pool. Our PTA have raised £35k and the school’s stretched itself thin, investing a whopping £250,000. But – we’re still £150,000 short. And we can’t let it go under now…. 40% of kids in the UK leave Primary unable to swim. We’re trying to do our bit to turn that tide by giving each of our 1,000 pupils the chance to learn a sport which can save their life – and someone else’s. Every penny counts.
