(UK, XT35934) Browse eventsThere are more than 17,000 younger people with dementia in the UK. However, this number is likely to be an under-estimate, and the true figure may be up to three times higher. The Young Onset Group are a group of people who care for our loved ones, all of whom have Early Onset Dementia. We were constituted in 2007 by the Admiral Nurses as a self- support group for people with Dementia under the age of 65 years and their carers. We realised that the interests and experiences of people under the age of sixty-five were often different from those of older people and so our activities are planned accordingly. Previously we have enjoyed trips to: the theatre, seaside, Chill Factor, canal trips, meals out, T’ai Chi, reflexology and ten-pin bowling. We meet once a month at Thicketford House (Bolton BL2 2LW) from 1pm. until 3pm. to plan our activities, chat and support one another. We also have regular coffee mornings a variety of locations. No one is obliged to leave the group when they reach the age of 65 or asked to stop attending the meetings and activities when their loved ones are unable to come. Carers and cared for are welcome from Bolton and all surrounding areas. There are no fees to pay. If you would like more information, members from our group would be only too pleased to visit you to give you more details. So if you enjoy a good laugh, would like time in the company of others who understand your situation please email: [email protected]
