PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR CYCLE FOR UGANDA 2011. Cycle for Uganda is a one week charity cycle tour in Uganda which raises money mainly for the Next Generation programme, run by Mara Foundation, that aims at school improvement for government funded secondary schools serving disadvantaged communities in Uganda, amongst a few other good causes. The route (all on good paved roads) passes through the beautiful hills of Western Uganda, a green and fertile land where ancient volcanoes enclose the Western arm of the Great Rift Valley. We’ll pass straight through Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you can expect to see elephant, buffalo, antelope, and if you’re really lucky, tree-climbing lions. We’ll pass the vast tea estates of Fort Portal and Bushenyi, as well as ancient crater lakes of up to 300m depth hidden behind the terraced hillsides and banana plantations, all on a backdrop of the vast Rwenzori volcanoes. The route takes in some tough climbs as well as a few glorious descents. The week culminates with an opportunity to track the endangered mountain gorilla in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. For those who have never visited Africa before, there is no better introduction – the scenery in Western Uganda is mind-blowing!

The Cormac Trust (UK, XR84748) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Cormac Trust was set up after the sudden death of Cormac McAnallen in the morning of 2nd March 2004. Cormac’s death came as a shock to people not only in his local area, but also to people all over Ulster and Ireland, as he was a well-known sportsman of exceptional fitness and of ostensibly perfect health. It was largely due to the death of Cormac, Irish youth rugby international John McCall and other subsequent cases that the Irish public became aware of the issue of sudden cardiac death among young people. From the time of Cormac’s death the McAnallen family was keen to direct public attention to these cardiac conditions that cause such sudden deaths. Hence the family, with the assistance of the Tyrone County Board of the GAA, set up the Cormac Trust. The following are its four objects: To raise awareness of sudden cardiac deaths in young people, and its causes; To promote cardiac screening for young people, especially for athletes; To provide education and information to raise awareness at government level and among other authorities as to the value of providing facilities for the screening of young people; To provide automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for sports clubs in the local region, for the use of the entire local community, and to train people in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of defibrillators.

Welcome to Joybells Thank you for visiting the Joybells donation page. All donations large or small are always greatly appreciated – particularly by the Children, who depend on your generosity for their day to day needs About Joybells In 1983, whilst living in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim in Northern India, Joy started to care for small children whose mothers were having to work as labourers and had no possibility, at that time, of caring for their children themselves. When word spread of the work Joy was doing other destitute women starting bringing their babies to Joy. She took these children into her home, fed them, clothed them and began to educate them. This was the beginning of Joybells. Over 20 years Joybells, in Gangtok, grew to become a school for 400 with an orphanage for 50. In 2000 the decision was made for Joy to leave Gangtok, the remoteness of Sikkim making the everyday running of the school vitually impossible. Land was found near the city of Dehradun in the foothills of the Himalayas and the new Joybells was begun. The first of the new buildings has been opened and is home to over 60 children. Work is reaching completion on two of the main buildings that already provide accommodation for the children but will allow for more staff to be accommodated as well as a new medical wing. It has always been the case that children of all faiths have been welcomed by Joybells. Eventually there will be a home for about 200 children which will also be their primary school up to the age of 12. For their secondary education the children will go to other schools in the area. The orphanage will be home for the children throughout their schooling. Joy’s aim is to give the children in her care a Christian home and a really outstanding education. Jo's Dreams (UK, XT33340) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Jo’s Dreams helps people with life threatening kidney failure. This is classed as grade 4/5 kidney disease and means that the patient is often on a gruelling dialysis routine. We also help people who have had a long period of time on dialysis. Jo’s Dreams will coordinate and organise the funding to provide an individual with an experience of their choice. It is aimed to help provide people with a memory that can never be taken away from them or their family and loved ones. Jo’s Dreams can provide an experience that will be unique to that person. They may want something as simple as trip to the cinema with friends or a weekend in London to see a show.  Others may be more daring – it’s really up to them. The dream is their choice …… we will make it happen by funding and organising it for them – making it tailored to suit their needs. It will be a special time to always be remembered. The experience will have to fall within our funding criteria.   Joanne Horobin died on 3rd August 2011, aged 48, in the arms of her family. Jo had a dream that she talked about hours before she died ...... Kidney failure took her precious life too soon and had a dramatic effect on her quality of life. Jo spent the last five years of her life fighting kidney disease. During this time Joanne’s life was ruled by dialysis sessions at Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. Jo saw the suffering of many terminally ill people and wanted her legacy to help them a break from the mundane routine of a “normal” dialysis week. So many people  often have very little to look forward to apart from endless rounds of hospital visits, dialysis treatments and the prospect of living with this kidney  disease for years. Jo wanted others to have a good time - she wanted families to have special memories together. Our sister knew that setting up Jo’s Dreams would help others in this terrible situation which is so hard to bear. Jo’s Dreams is a tribute to Joanne Horobin’s courage, determination and sheer love of life ……….. Sadly gone but never forgotten.
