The existing playground for our younger children is in need of replacement, and we have a plan in place to provide an outstanding facility that will be enjoyed for years to come. The new area has been designed by Wicksteed Playgrounds, a UK company that has 100 years of experience providing inspirational play spaces that meet the highest safety standards. The new playground will include swings, a roundabout, seesaw, interactive play panels and a dinosaur-themed climbing frame with slide. The equipment will also cater for wheelchair-bound children and sensory areas will help those with autism and learning difficulties. The site of the playground will move next to the village hall, enabling easier wheelchair access and use of our other facilities. The cost of the playground will be around £56,000; to date, we have raised about £49,000. With your support to get us over the line, the playground can become a reality in the first half of 2019. Please get involved with cake sales, sponsored runs and any other ways that you can think of. Follow our Facebook page for regular updates and get in touch with your fundraising ideas. The Jakarta Education Foundation (JEF) enables underprivileged Indonesian children to enjoy their basic rights to an education. There is almost no free schooling in Indonesia. With half of the country's 240 million people living on less than £1.25 per day, education is all too often a 'luxury' that families cannot afford. As a result, 40% of indonesian children do not continue their education beyond primary school. JEF covers the education costs of Indonesian children who would otherwise drop out of school. JEF has already helped to improve the lives of dozens of children whom it has sponsored to go to school. Four of JEFs alumni are currently at university, where one is studying graphic design, two are studying communications, and another is training to be a teacher. Other JEF alumni have found work in a range of jobs which would have been beyond their reach had they not graduated from high school. They include one who is working as an IT programmer and another who is a junior accountant in a market research company. JEF was founded, and is run by, Tessa Piper, a British national who is the Jakarta-based Asia Director of a US media development non-profit organization who has lived and worked in Indonesia for almost 20 years and speaks fluent Indonesian. Tessa's management of the foundation involves extensive interaction with the children who receive educational support from JEF, and she maintains contact with them throughout their years of sponsorship and often for long afterwards. She does this through regular meetings with the children, during which she assesses their progress both in and out of school. This includes reviewing with each of the children their six monthly school reports, based on which they together agree achievable targets for improvement designed to help them to achieve their full potential. 100% of all money donated to JEF is used to cover the education costs of the children and the number of children assisted through JEF is only limited by the funds available. If you would like to help a child to get the education they deserve, please donate whatever you can, and JEF will do the rest.

Raising £9000 for a Syrian Family to settle in BrauntonThe Syrian war has created the biggest humanitarian crisis since World War 2. Over 12 million Syrians have been displaced. 5.1 million of those are in refugee camps. Half of those in refugee camps are children. Life in a refugee camp is very difficult. Lots of children have to work to help support the family, and therefore miss out on an education. There is also a high risk of children being exploited through child labour, child marriage and other forms of abuse. The UK government has set up a Community Sponsorship Scheme which enables local UK communities to raise money to help support a Syrian family to integrate into the local area. This is part of the 20,000 Syrian refugees which the government has agreed to resettle in the UK by 2020. The Braunton Community Sponsorship group is hoping to be approved by the home office to resettle a Syrian family. As part of this we need to raise £9000. The money will go towards, housing, Interpretation, English lessons, food, transport etc for the family whilst they begin to integrate into the local community.By giving money, you can give hope and future to a Syrian family. You can help give the children an education, and the support to help the parents find work. You can be a part of changing a families future. You can be a part of a global community.Thankyou Charity No: 1158997
