The British Home. (UK, 206222) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The British Home is a charity that cares for severely disabled adults. It provides 24 hour professional nursing care for 100 residents. Most residents are wheelchair users with disabilities caused by illnesses such as multiple sclerosis and stroke. Some have acquired brain injury, others have been injured through accidents or crime. Residents have modern and spacious single rooms and are cared for as individuals with unique and specific needs. They are encouraged to make decisions and keep as much control as possible over their lives. Providing residents with the skilled nursing they depend on is extremely costly. Most of our residents need expensive, highly specialised equipment so that they can live in comfort and dignity. Most residents at the Home receive funding from local and health authorities, but we still have to raise at least £180 a week per person to cover our full costs. Legacies are a vital source of support and help us to afford the equipment our residents need. Donations enable us to provide a full programme of leisure activities that help people to enjoy their lives again. Can you help? If you can remember us in your Will or make a donation it would make a real and direct difference to the lives of people with severe disabilities. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Sikh Recovery Network (UK, 1184884) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Sikh Recovery Network is a Peer Led Charity and we a aim to provide a network of recovery services, mainstream and peer led, to help individuals who are struggling to cope with alcohol and drug addiction. We are currently running group meetings and one-to-one sessions and peer mentoring which will all help in personal development. Our Charity addresses the issue of substance misuse, with a particular focus on the Panjabi Sikh community. The unspoken alcohol problem within the British Panjabi Sikh Community has been depicted in a BBC documentary. Although social drinking is somewhat encouraged at weddings and other functions, people tend to to keep quiet when it comes to speaking about alcoholism due to the stigma, and the fear of being ostracised, creating a taboo around the issue. The fear of being judged may result in someone refraining from seeking help. There is a really strong pride and honour for the family name and people don't want anyone to perceive them as having something wrong with them or having any form of weakness.

Help us establish our Islamic Centre in the heart of London to enhance our services such as the five daily prayers, Jumuah, taraweeh, adult Quran and Islamic studies classes, counselling sessions, youth clubs, madrasa for children and more. A golden chance for Sadaqa Jariyyah as the Prophet ﷺ taught us: "spreading beneficial knowledge is an ongoing charity." (1631 Sahih Muslim) Our dedicated team are working hard to establish this centre, so we need your help to complete this noble project in sha Allah. Kindly donate to help us raise £250,000 to open our Seeker of Knowledge Islamic Centre which will be dedicated to serving the community using authentic knowledge from the noble Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him.
