(UK, 1143961) Forget-Me-Not Dementia Day Clubs are social clubs for members of the public with all types of dementia and their carers. Many people with dementia lose contact with their friends as their health declines. The clubs provide an opportunity for friendship, access to social life and enable people to have enjoyment in life. The clubs also give carers the opportunity to have a break from caring for their spouse/relative and to meet others in the same situation for support. The clubs are also open to ex-carers who have lost a relative to dementia and need support. A variety of activities take place such as trips, walks, short holidays, also indoor activities, e.g. board games, bingo, snooker, quizzes, crafts, etc. Entertainment is also provided. All who work for Forget-Me-Not are unpaid volunteers. The clubs are run within local communites in church halls. Currently there are four clubs in the Swansea area - in Gorseinon, Mumbles and two in Killay, with approximately 100 people attending at the current time.All donations, large and small, are very much appreciated as with the increase in numbers of people suffering from dementia, particularly with an ageing population, the clubs will no doubt continue to be a support to the public for many years ahead. Part of this funding will be used to introduce a self-sustainable food growing and management system in order that the school will eventually be able to take responsibility for producing its own food. DESKS: There is currently a shortage of 180 desks in a school with over 1200 students. Each desk sits 3 children and costs £33 per desk that’s £11 per child. If you buy a single seat or a whole desk, you may apply your name or the name of someone special you nominate as a gift. We’ll email you or your nominated recipient a uniquely numbered voucher confirming your purchase. When your desk is built and labelled, we’ll send you a digital photograph of it. Orfund is a small charity based in Poole, Dorset which helps children and young people in Dedza in southern Malawi who have no parents - or only one parent or relative who is unable to care for them. We do this by raising money which we send to our partners who look after, or educate children and young people with the money we raise on their behalf. Orfund supports up to 30 children who live at, or receive support from, the Molima Family Home. We are also supporting two former residents who are apprentices in mechanics in the capital, Lilongwe, about 50 miles away. We also support local schools in Dedza because it's important that children acquire the knowledge and skills they need to be able to live independently as adults. Malawi is now the 3rd poorest country in the world. At the moment we can send just over £25 per month for each child at Molima. There is however so much more that we could do to improve the health, well-being and life opportunities of the children. Although we have some money set aside for improvements and new developments we need more regular and one-off donations to be able to support these year on year.
