Over the course of the past 15 years we have been delivering drug awareness sessions to schools and colleges, each year educating an average of 22,000 more children and young people. Based in Yorkshire, we have now educated 400,000 children, including a huge one third of the total child population of Yorkshire and the Humber. Our main target age-group is 10 and 11 year olds, providing drug education to older primary school children prior to them moving up to secondary school, and hopefully BEFORE they come into contact with drugs. By age 12: one in twelve children (8 %) have used drugs. By age 14: one in three children (33 %) have used drugs. We are proud that a 2013 national survey found that Yorkshire, the Humber and the North West (our very own three regions of focus) each had the greatest reduction in child drug use statistics compared to any other UK region over the previous 10 year period. Drug education initiatives, such as our own, were cited by experts, as being the reason for the significant drop in child drug use statistics.
