EDP is a small UK based charity which offers FEE FREE senior secondary education at the Awutu-Winton Senior High School to disadvantaged but academically able youngsters in Awutu, 50 miles west of Accra in Ghana. EDP believes that education is the only route out of poverty and despair, and it is the gift no child in our world should be denied! In Ghana only 45% of the population attends senior secondary school – costing close to 35% of the average per capita GDP, it is way beyond the financial reach of the majority. Therefore, EDP Directors David and Inez Lunan joined with founder Peter Donkor (a Ghanaian teacher formerly at Winton School in Andover) to address the educational needs of youth in the Awutu area by building the Awutu-Winton Senior High School. Education underpins our all our projects impacting both child and adult. We aim to improve educational facilities and resources both in formal and informal arenas in order to provide the community with knowledge and skills. Our approach to develop these solutions together ensures the sustainability and success of our projects. We contribute knowledge and resources but generally act as a facilitator to these projects. Hospices of Hope is the leading palliative care charity in South East Europe and has pioneered services for children and adults with terminal and life-limiting illnesses for 30 years. We believe that everyone deserves the best possible care at the end of life. But in developing countries like Romania, Serbia, Albania and Moldova many patients still die in pain, without being offered any physical, spiritual or emotional comfort. Struggling healthcare systems offer little or nothing in the way of hospice care. Every year more than 70% of adults and children diagnosed with cancer in Romania, will experience unrelieved pain. We have cared for over 40,000 patients and trained over 20,000 medical professionals. The first in-patient hospice opened in the city of Brasov, Romania, in 2002 and a new hospice in Bucharest for patients with advanced cancer was completed in September 2014.
