Welcome to the Turing Trust... The Turing Trust is an African micro-development charity set up in 2009 to develop sustainable rural schools in Ghana.  The Turing Trust was set up by James Turing in response to the unfair poverty he saw in a Ghanaian school during his gap year. He was shocked at how the school managed to operate without a single textbook for over 50 students and was compelled to help them. The Trust has a Ghanaian branch (registered in Ghana as the Turing Foundation) which carries out several activities involving the school. The schools name is the Afoako ICCES (Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills) and is located in a small village in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. By raising awareness and funding in the UK this will enable the Trust to support the local, community-led ICCES who give children the education, support and inspiration they need to transform their lives. We fundraise through our enthusiastic supporters in our local communities to help the schools and wonderful communities who have made such a strong impression on the founding members of the Turing Trust.  With all of this support we are able to make huge changes to the lives of the children we work with in Ghana. Since the Trust began we have enabled 20 extra students to gain an education each year by constructing a girls dormitory, we have built and furnished a computer lab enabling a whole community to access to the digital world, donated over £30,000 and 55 computers to our associated schools in Ghana and most importantly ensured that hundreds of students have been able to gain an education.  For more information about the Turing Trust please visit www.turingtrust.co.uk

Young peoples counselling service (UK, 1034587) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

WYPCS is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers and we employ trained counsellors to support the young people who access our services. This helps us to keep our running costs to a minimum and concentrate our expenditure on service provision, making sure that the maximum benefit is extracted for all monies invested. The service is free and confidential and can be accessed by any young person in emotional difficulty. Common problems we encounter include family and relationship difficulties, issues regarding loneliness and anxiety, problems associated with low self esteem and bullying, self harm, abuse, distress through bereavement or loss, depression and difficulty with decision making. Many young people are referred via their local GP, but clients are also able, and encouraged, to access the service through self-referral. We provide locally accessible counselling support for young people where early intervention will reduce the need for specialist Primary or Secondary Care service input at a later stage. A key aim of the service is to tackle and address issues at an early stage. We see this as crucial support to allow them to focus on the many social and educational demands placed upon them at this important time in their life. Maintaining and developing educational and social achievement provides considerable benefits as young people continue to work towards long-term goals, gaining improved quality of life.

This woodland is open to the community 24/7 every day and access is free. it is designed to provide not only an asset for the community where visitors can commune with nature but also a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. It is managed and run by community volunteers and having purchased the land, the trust desperately needs funds to pay off the resultant debt and to fund maintenance of the wood for the future. This includes providing drainage to make the wood less dangerous underfoot. There is also a need to make at least the initial access of the wood disabled friendly.
