Beacon Counselling (UK, 1109545) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Beacon Counselling exists to improve the lives of adults, young people, and children who experience mental and emotional distress. To achieve this aim we provide a range of counselling and related services across the borough of Stockport and beyond. We work from GP practices and community centres, schools and pupil referral units, other charities and our own base in Stockport. This flexibility means we can respond to people where and when they need us, and we support around 1500 people each year via a range of targeted services. The work we do is effective. We know it is because the people we support tell us, and the monitoring forms we use show significant improvements. Over 85% of the people who make use of Beacon show an improvement, and the main benefits people experience are reductions in the levels of depression and anxiety, increase in the levels of well-being, confidence and self-esteem, and improvements in relationships with family, friends and colleagues. Above all, what people tell us is they have gained the skills and resilience which means they don't think they will need our help again. A team of over 60 counsellors - mostly volunteers - provide all our services, and the quality of their work is overseen by a team of 11 casework supervisors and the general manager. A team of part-time appointments administrators support counsellors by making and rearranging all appointments on our adults service. Beacon has a board of 7 trustees, who ensure the overall quality of its services. The different Beacon makes in people's lives, coupled with the quality of services and excellent value for money, was recognised in 2012 with Beacon winning a Glaxo-SmithKline IMPACT award.

YTD Raised: n/a

Migdal Ohr was set up over 40 years ago with one purpose, saving and supporting children at risk. With an estimated 330,000 young people at risk of failing in school and destined to a life of poverty and trouble, Migdal Ohr offers them an opportunity to successfully complete their education in a safe and loving environment. From its main Campus in Migdal HaEmek the charity provides a loving home and an excellent education to thousands vulnerable children age 0 to 18 who on graduation enrol to National Service activities. Migdal Ohr continues to expand under the leadership of its founder Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman, establishing many other projects. A network of 160 youth clubs offers children a secure place to eat, study and play after school hours. For children who cannot remain in their own homes, we have established Zoharim, an agricultural education village. To counter the plight of the some in the Haredi community members who wish to escape living life on benefits, we have established an academy that meets their religious needs and offers opportunities to study for a university degree that will allow them to find a meaningful employment in the open market. Migdal Ohr is a driven organisation, which sets its sights on helping ever more children and young people in new and creative ways. Our annual turnover of over 20 million pounds is partially met by the Israeli government but a third needs to come from private donations.

ASAP wants different communities from.different backgrounds to meet. We believe this is particularly important for our young adults. Our aim is achieved by putting on community projects. Typically our project last for 3 or 4 months. Practices happen within communities and meets happen between participating communities. We like projects that are low risk, have a low learning curve and are non gender/age related. Ideal projects are activities like rounders, frisbee, pickelball and running. Let's get together. Let's make our communities great places to be!

Hinde Street Methodist Church (UK, 1134023) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Hinde Street Church, in the heart of Marylebone and central London, maintains a strong tradition of thoughtful Christian preaching, radical theology and a passion for social justice. Methodists have been meeting to worship on this site and serve the local community for more than 200 years. Our three different Sunday services draw people from nearby and across London - and every week visitors to London share worship with us, admiring the beautiful interior of our 1887 listed chapel. Besides our services, we open our doors for hire, for weddings and events, yes, but also providing reduced rates to 12-step groups and registered charities. Everyone is welcome to attend our public lecture series on spirituality in today’s society, the Tuesday lunchtime meditations, our group for young adults, and our informative, social tea-time talks on Thursdays. We support the social work of the West London Mission, with volunteers welcoming the homeless to our hall on Wednesday evenings for food and chats. During four months over winter we are part of the Westminster churches’ winter night shelter program, when volunteers welcome a group of 15 people experiencing homelessness, providing dinner and a warm place to sleep, while the West London Day Centre works to ensure they are registered for benefits, helped to find work, and supported in looking for local housing. In this and in many other ways we seek to serve the inner-city community around us. We welcome donations from people anywhere who wish to support the life and work of our church. Our regular running costs are £5,600 per week. We are also running campaigns to replace our boiler, and to repair our historic pipe organ (which is available to book, if you want to play!). Can you help?
