Lunch4Learning (UK, 1126948) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Since 2003, Ugandan children have been attending school in much larger numbers but if education is to have its desired impact, then lunchtime meals have to be made available. Our aim has always been to raise the standard of learning of children in Ugandan primary schools.  Lunch4Learning was set up in 2008 to raise the standards of learning in primary schools in Uganda by helping these schools provide children with a midday meal. This is to be achieved by helping schools to grow food crops that will provide a lunch for pupils who presently go without one. We also support schools with income-generating projects. Many of these children go without breakfast and will have walked long distances to get to school where drinking water is not always available either so we also look after their water needs as best we can. A midday meal improves pupils' attendance and thus, increases attainment levels and future lives. This encapsulates Lunch4Learning’s primary objectives and reflects those of the World Bank, UNICEF and the World Food Programme. What is very different about Lunch4Learning is that it encourages sustainable agriculture and whilst helping schools to grow their own crops, it also provides hands-on opportunities for involvement of extended school communities - parents, churches etc. - to advance their children’s futures across generations. We, therefore, expect the impact of our work to be considerable, sustainable and also long term across communities.   Lunch4Learning was awarded NGO status in Uganda in July 2011. Ours is an ambitious, long term, sustainable programme. By empowering schools to grow their own food and provide a daily lunch to all their pupils, we will encourage children to be successful learners and to develop practical and sustainable skills at the same time.
