Save Sacred Heart School, Swaffham from TV's 'Bad Habits, Holy Orders' (UK, 237760) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Sacred Heart is a wonderfully nurturing environment for a diverse community of children. It is an environment like no other due in part to the school motto 'Service Before Self' being truly alive in every child from 3 through 16. It has a unique approach thanks to the Sisters and staff members working together to foster a safe space for all learners and all abilities. Over the years the school has moved from being a predominantly fee-paying school to one where many families and students would have been unable to benefit from our wonderful school and facilities without the aid of bursaries. The Sisters who help run the school (many of whom featured in Bad Habits, Holy Orders first broadcast on Channel 5 in 2017) have subsidised the school over the past few years as the social and economic landscape around us has changed, by selling off assets such as properties in order for the school to continue. Sacred Heart School believed the way forwards was to convert to a Free School under professional advise, and put great energies and time in to doing so. Sadly however, this was not possible as the Free School criteria was changed after the snap election in summer 2017 and Sacred Heart no longer met the requirements. Sacred Heart is now in the position where if nothing else changes the entire school will close it's doors in July 2019. We desperately wish to continue this offering, and greatly appreciate all donations made to help save our school.

Paballong UK Trust (UK, 1143940) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Paballong UK Trust was established in 2010 so that we could help those in Lesotho, a small country in southern Africa, who suffer from HIV and Aids. Our main purpose is 'the relief of poverty in Lesotho, specifically among those who are severely disadvantaged and infected or affected by HIV/Aids'. We support the operations of the Paballong Centre which has been fully equipped since 2007. The Centre now has a staff complement of 31 who provide voluntary counselling and testing, antiretroviral therapy, and the treatment of opportunistic diseases, including TB. Since 2008 all services have been provided for free. To date there have been some 31,000 visits by nearly 4,500 clients of whom 1,031 on ART. It has tested the HIV status of 2,153 people, provided 10,422 treatments for opportunistic diseases, and offered maternity and family planning programmes to 1,528 clients. Nearly 22,500 free lunches have been provided. Paballong has moved on enormously from its original aim: while meeting the needs of HIV and Aids patients and their care-givers is still the primary purpose of the Centre, substantial efforts have been made to use the Centre in other ways, for example improving socio-economic opportunities for local communities.

The Charlie Harrison Foundation (UK, xt30081) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Charlie Harrison Foundation was set up after our son Charlie died due to complications during labour. On average ten babies are stillborn (die after the 24th week of pregnancy) and seven babies die neonatally (die within the first four weeks of life) every day in the UK. This is higher than almost any other high income country. Around 500 babies die every year in the UK as a result of events during labour when the baby does not get enough oxygen. These are clearly some of the most avoidable deaths of all since, if the babys labour had been managed in a different way, the baby might have lived. The money raised by The Charlie Harrison Foundation will be used to: Provide training for midwives and neo-natal nurses Ensure appropriate support is available for parents Buy specialised equipment Initially we will support the hospitals where Charlie was cared for but eventually we hope to extend this to other hospitals in our area, to national charities that fund research and to international charities that support neonatal care in developing countries.
