It is absolutely fantastic to see the change in these guys when they walk back out the door.
(UK, 1156687) Browse eventsWelcome to the Turing Trust... The Turing Trust is an African micro-development charity set up in 2009 to develop sustainable rural schools in Ghana. The Turing Trust was set up by James Turing in response to the unfair poverty he saw in a Ghanaian school during his gap year. He was shocked at how the school managed to operate without a single textbook for over 50 students and was compelled to help them. The Trust has a Ghanaian branch (registered in Ghana as the Turing Foundation) which carries out several activities involving the school. The schools name is the Afoako ICCES (Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills) and is located in a small village in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. By raising awareness and funding in the UK this will enable the Trust to support the local, community-led ICCES who give children the education, support and inspiration they need to transform their lives. We fundraise through our enthusiastic supporters in our local communities to help the schools and wonderful communities who have made such a strong impression on the founding members of the Turing Trust. With all of this support we are able to make huge changes to the lives of the children we work with in Ghana. Since the Trust began we have enabled 20 extra students to gain an education each year by constructing a girls dormitory, we have built and furnished a computer lab enabling a whole community to access to the digital world, donated over £30,000 and 55 computers to our associated schools in Ghana and most importantly ensured that hundreds of students have been able to gain an education. From it's early listing in the Doomsday Book St Peter's has provided a spiritual and community focal point for the villagers of Winterbourne Stoke. Boasting a number of significant architectural features including Norman arches. We are a small village that struggles to pay for the running costs, but the church is now in need of urgent repair to the walls, roof and bells. We would also like to update the space so that it can be used for other village activities. The villagers would desperately like to keep the church open for future generations so it can be used for general worship, christenings, weddings and community activities.
