(UK, 504923) Browse eventsTeam call outs have changed greatly over the years. Originally the most common call out was for fallen climbers or people lost in the hills. These days the role of the Mountain rescuer has expanded, although the service remains voluntary with team members giving up their time should the need arise. Teams are trained in many disciplines and are expected to turn out for a wide variety of call outs. For example there are now National registers for Team swift water rescue capabilities following the recent flooding in Cockermouth. Teams often support their neighbouring Teams in times of multiple call outs. Each Team has members trained to the particular terrain that they work in. For Coniston our incidents now include such diverse call outs as climbing accidents, searches for lost persons, walking accidents, mountain biking accidents, gorge scrambling accidents, diving accidents, Swift Water Response Team, Animal retrieval and occasionally mines rescues in the copper mines/slate closed heads with Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit. Mountain Rescue Teams are unique in their ability to respond to multi-faceted call outs which makes them a very valuable resource. Your kind donations allow us to maintain the latest equipment so as to ensure that, as a voluntary service Coniston Mountain Rescue Team is always there when the need arises.

(UK, 1077316) Browse eventsHaslewey opened its doors to provide a much needed community centre for all ages in the area 15 years ago. Haslewey is a completely independent organisation, a registered charity that runs as a business. We are reliant on around 80 volunteers and 9 employed staff. To enable Haslewey to continue to benefit the local community we are heavily dependent on income we generate from room hire, services we offer, fundraising through the local community, grants and lets not forget about team of our amazing and dedicated volunteers helping at the cafe, kitchen, reception and Community Meals Service. We could not run the centre without their help and support. Thanks our fantastic community we managed to raise £15,000 to open small post office after old facility was shut down. We are running our own cafe, open from Monday to Friday, offering breakfast, lunch or a light snack with cup of tea or glass of wine. Our centre offers wide range of activities for all ages like Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Bingo, Stretch & Tone and many more. Our Community Meals Service, delivers hot and freshly cooked lunches from Monday to Friday for those who are unable to provide meal for themselves. It has been a great success, and the number of people signing up for the service is still rising. We also have a community car, used for our clients and volunteers to help them with transport or delivering CMS. Majority of our clients are elderly, sometimes very lonely and frail people who finds not only a company but also an entertainment at the centre. We care for their wellbeing and love to see them at the centre.

Giving You The Opportunity To Shine Through Sport We are committed to looking outside of the "box" and seeing the bigger picture. We have seen first hand the difference a boxing club facility and of course a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers can make to a community. often stretching beyond the limits of boxing training, a boxing facility can help a much wider range of people in a community. From fitness classes for people living with Parkinson's disease to self defense lessons for vulnerable young girls working within the sex trade. More recently we supplied over 40,000 meals to those in need during this pandemic
