The East Kilbride & District Dementia Carers Group was formed in 1990 to support people with dementia and their carers. We provide daycare, trips and outings to people with dementia, and support for the carers of people with dementia through our Carers Support Group; our Memory Cafe; and our Information and Advice service. Within daycare, we provide a wide range of activities, including: Reminiscence, Arts & Crafts, Quizzes, Music Therapy, board games, hairdressing, gentle exercises, prize bingo, dancing, and karaoke. We also have our own fully accessible mini-bus with wheelchair access, and regularly go on trips and outings with our service users. Each year, we carry out over 300 trips and outings. A Number of these have been on a one-to-one basis, to things like dentists, doctors, barbers, hospital visits, and other such practical trips. Our passion is that people with dementia should continue to be an active part of their local community, and our role is very much to do whatever we can to enable that to happen. We do NOT pay Fundraising Managers, people to fundraise or Directors! These roles are carried out entirely by volunteers who take NO expenses!
