(UK, 1167072) Browse eventsThe Stephen Hughes Foundation has been set up by friends and family in memory of Stephen who passed away in October 2014, just nine days short of his 24th birthday, after a six month battle with Giant Cell Myocarditis. The Charity’s core purpose is to fund badly needed research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Myocarditis, especially the rarer form of Giant Cell, which is responsible for claiming the lives of many healthy and active young people, often without any warning. A further purpose comes from Stephen’s love of participating in, and coaching, a wide number of sports, including tennis, football, table tennis and basketball, which he took into his role as a primary school teacher. The Stephen Hughes Sports Awards are being set up locally to where Stephen grew up, to provide funding for groups of children, of primary school age, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to participate in a sport for social skills, health and self esteem purposes.

We help to empower local people through the provision of micro-finance loans to women’s groups, training and project work. The charity was formed in 2012 to continue the work of an umbrella group - called Hope for Uganda - which brought together 3 UK based church groups: The Parish of Wisley with Pyrford, Ash Vale (both in Surrey) and The Forest of Dean. Our work focuses on Women's groups as this does most to improve quality of life. Support has also included street kids and vulnerable young people. The support, started in 2006, has shown great benefits to the Women's Groups and particularly their children and families.
