Anam Cara Parental & Sibling Bereavement Support (UK, 20068592) Browse events

YTD Raised: £13,680.39

Anam Cara is a national organisation founded by bereaved parents. We provide a range of bereavement support services throughout the 32 counties. More importantly, we offer peer support and understanding to families who have experienced the death of a child. Each year in Ireland about two thousand families experience the death of a son or daughter. For some, the death may have been expected through illness or a life-limiting condition. For others, it was unexpected through stillbirth, an accident, suicide or substance abuse. Anam Cara’s online and face to face services are available to all parents regardless of age or circumstances of their child’s death and are available for as long as necessary. At Anam Cara we focus on the similarities of our loss rather than the differences and provide a level of support and understanding that others cannot offer. Our bereavement as parents unites us. Anam Cara currently has nine active local groups meeting regularly throughout the country. All Anam Cara services are offered free of charge to bereaved parents and families, and as we do not receive government funding, we rely heavily on public fundraising to fund the costs of our local groups and events. We are hugely grateful to any support you can give us. Thank you!

Our purpose is to provide bereavement support to promote resilience and provide emotional support to children, young people and their families and carers and assisting them to move positively through the grieving process. We believe that: - Grief is a normal, unavoidable process (not an illness or aberration) - Every child should have access to appropriate bereavement support - With appropriate support, a child can develop resilience and move positively through to adulthood and can develop coping strategies for positive mental health in adult life - With timely interventions, children and young people are less likely to engage in risky, antisocial and / or offending behaviours - Children should be supported to achieve their potential - Children should be heard and encouraged to express themselves - Children should be given the opportunity to explore feelings and emotions and understand that these change over time - Our bereavement services should be free at the point of access - We believe in the value of volunteering - We believe in treating everybody according to their needs - We believe in sound governance and management to the highest professional standards in all our spheres of activity

Spear Islington Trust (UK, 1167900) Browse events

YTD Raised: £13,576.00

Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate.Spear IslingtonA registered charity seeking to stimulate social transformation in our community.  By running the Spear Programme we ‘ignite a vision of the possible’ in unemployed young people, we build their confidence and we help release their ability to implement life-changing choices. The Spear ProgrammeA highly-interactive, award-winning year-long coaching programme that equips and supports disadvantaged 16 to 24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEET) with the attitudes and skills to find long-term employment. The programme tackles deep-rooted issues which prevent the young people from moving forward with their lives and helps them to see what is possible for them.  They learn to better manage their emotions, they grow in their ability to communicate both professionally and personally and they start to take responsibility for their lives. 75% of those who complete the initial six weeks not only go into work or training but are still there a year later. Spear helps young people to find work and, in so doing, find themselves.  Please donate to support our cause. The Spear Programme is aimed at disadvantaged young people who often face multiple issues and require significant support. Islington is the seventh most deprived borough in London.  A third of children in the area live in poverty and a third in workless households which is the highest percentage in London.  Islington is a magnet for thousands of students and young professionals but has pockets of disadvantage where young people are not able to benefit from the opportunities around them, leading to social divisions. Studies have demonstrated that unemployment negatively impacts a young person in the long-term, affecting their self-esteem and future earnings.  The young people we are working with experience a range of disadvantage; on average 49% received free school meals, 63% are from workless households, 57% have less than five GCSEs.  Many of our young people also suffer from depression and anxiety and, for many, their confidence is at rock bottom. We help up to 90 young people a year at a cost of £1000 per person.  All the money we receive goes directly to helping these young people.  It is an investment in all our futures.  Charity No: 1167900
