YTD Raised: n/a

The Belper North Mill Trust at Strutt’s North Mill The Belper North Mill Trust runs the Derwent Valley Visitor Centre and an accredited museum in ‘Strutt’s North Mill’ in Belper, part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site where, in the 18th century, the factory system was born, cotton spinning was revolutionised and building technology and the world of work changed forever. Once a part of the Strutt family’s extensive Belper mills complex and powered by the River Derwent, the North Mill (1804) was designed by William Strutt to be fire-resistant and is one of the earliest completely iron-framed mills in the world. Here using with the water-frame technology devised by his former partner, Richard Arkwright, Jedediah Strutt and his family helped to introduce mechanised cotton spinning to the Derwent Valley, an industry that formed the mainstay of Belper and the surrounding area for over 200 years. The Belper North Mill Trust’s mission is to protect and to promote the industrial heritage of the North Mill and of the Derwent Valley for the benefit of the public. With its volunteers the Trust works to share the story of the mills and the surrounding Strutt community, the world’s first ‘cotton town’ and of this part of the lovely River Derwent, in ‘the valley that changed the world’.

FD-UK Familial Dysautonomia formally known as DSGB (UK, 285399) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

FDUK is a UK based charity to help support sufferers of Familial Dysautonomia and their families. One of the charitys main aims is to raise awareness in the community of FD as well as educate and help those with the condition. However, the condition is very rare and the charity is small and based in North London meaning many people around the country are unaware of it. The fear that the charity has is that there maybe people with the condition that are being diagnosed incorrectly and not receiving the correct treatment. The condition Familial dysautonomia (FD, used to be known as Riley Day syndrome) is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system which affects the sensory, sympathetic and some parasympathetic neurons in the autonomic and sensory nervous system resulting in variable symptoms including: insensitivity to pain, inability to produce tears, development delay, frequent lung infection caused by reflux or poor swallowing and labile blood pressure (episodic hypertension and postural hypotension). The charity Familial Dysautonomia United Kingdom (FDUK) is a charity set up to help support sufferers of FD and their families. Formally known as DSGB, the charity strives to raise awareness of the condition in the community. Its aim is also to raise money to fund individual medical needs and requirements, as well as to pay for specialised doctors in the condition to come to London to hold clinics to assess the FD sufferers and guide UK doctors in their specialised expertise. The charity is always looking for ways to spread awareness or raise money to support the sufferers. If you are able to help with either of these, please contact the group admin and they will be able to direct you.

Dean Valley Regeneration Limited (UK, 046270) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Dean Valley Regeneration Limited is a charitable company set up in Edinburgh in 2015 by a group of local residents seeking to breathe new life into one of Scotland’s most important historic landscapes, the Dean Valley, which cuts dramatically through the Georgian City. The area lying between Stockbridge and the Dean Village includes the much loved walkway, spectacular buildings, walls, bridges, railings and embankments, and planting which has been added to over time but is now mature and overgrown. It is all in need of urgent renovation and care, but your financial support is needed. You can find out who we are and much more about the project on our website, www.deanvalley.org.uk . We have already commissioned and published a Conservation Statement and a Biodiversity Study and we now seek funding of £25,000 for the second phase of a Feasibility Study. This in turn will enable us to work with the City of Edinburgh Council towards an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund and an extensive programme of rebuilding and renovation. DVRL asks for your generous support to their work to improve the Dean Valley.
