Spencer Lynx (UK, 1188217) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Spencer Lynx is committed to making hockey accessible to everyone in the community. Our aim is to increase children’s physical and mental wellbeing, while providing all the benefits of being part of a local Club. Our members come from local state primary schools, and we offer them 2 years’ free hockey training, including all kit and equipment. But our work does not stop after the 2 years comes to an end. Indeed, we very much hope that many of our Lynx members will want to continue playing hockey, and we are committed to making this happen. Hockey is an expensive sport, and cost is one of the most significant barriers to participation in sport. Some of our Lynx members’ families may struggle to meet the cost of club membership and/or costs of kit and equipment. And this is why we have set up the Spencer Lynx Bursary Fund. By way of example, the approximate cost of funding one child through their first season of hockey at Spencer Hockey Club is £450 (including membership fee, stick, kit, and all protective equipment). We very much hope that they will want to continue beyond that first season, all the way to U18 - that’s 7 seasons of hockey. Not every season will cost the same, as new kit won’t be needed every year, but equipment costs are likely to increase with the child’s development. Although a rough calculation would put a junior club career at around £3000. We welcome donations of any size, from individuals, companies and other organisations. You can make a general donation, or a donation to our Lifetime Bursary Award, which will fund one player throughout their junior hockey career to age 18. As a charity, with your permission, we are able to claim gift aid on individuals’ donations. For those that run their own companies, or whose employers might be able to donate, donations may be deducted from company profits before calculation of corporation tax payable. Thank you for your support.

YTD Raised: £0.00

We provide support to the children of families dealing with cancer and other life affecting illnesses, offering help through physical and sporting activities, counselling and memory-making days. The Chris Aked Foundation was the idea of our dear friend, loving husband and father, Chris Aked. Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in April 2017, when his baby daughter was only 11 weeks old. He fought hard, and we were hopeful he would recover, but unfortunately the cancer was diagnosed too late and he died just five months later on 7th September 2017, aged only 33.He was the most determined person through his illness and wanted to support others facing adversity. Children are often sidelined during the traumatic period while a parent or sibling is fighting cancer and we want to give them the focus, support and care they require, at a time when they need it most. Please help us make a difference. The Talent Tap (UK, 1183124) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Talent Tap is a social mobility charity with a mission to meaningfully change the lives of talented state educated students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, by giving them the work experience, support, and network, that they need to succeed in their chosen careers. The reality of today’s job market is that many careers can only be accessed if the applicant can demonstrate appropriate work experience on their CV. Often unpaid, it is only the students who can afford to spend weeks at a time working for free that gain such experience. On top of this, access to work experience requires a network of contacts and an understanding of what opportunities are out there. In addition the requirement for accommodation and transport means that the barriers for most school leavers are very high. The Talent Tap addresses this by working with a network of schools and businesses to provide work experience placements and mentoring programmes, along with the financial support needed to allow talented students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, to take advantage of these opportunities.
