MADaboutART (UK, 1093147) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

MADaboutART aims to do things differently; to MAKE A DIFFERENCE (MAD); to be creative and solve problems by giving young people skills to make changes to self and others. We are based in Knysna in the Western Cape of South Africa and our programme serves children and youth in low income areas of high unemployment and high HIV prevalence. Consequently children and youth are affected by issues of poverty, poor nutrition, ill health, low educational attainment, lack of self-esteem and under-achievement. Many face tough social problems as a result of marginalisation. At our children’s community centre in Nekkies on the outskirts of Knysna we aim to provide a safe ‘home from home’ where children feel loved and nurtured and are inspired to fulfil their potential and reach for their dreams. Children and youth work together to fight HIV – learning how to protect themselves and challenging stigmatisation of people living with HIV. Our programme of ‘experiential’ expressional art and narrative therapy encourages involvement and fun, creating a ‘children teaching children’ approach. Young adults are recruited and trained to become ‘Youth Ambassadors’ who provide strong, positive role models to inspire children and youth to make healthy choices and make a difference in their communities. MADaboutART is a registered charity (reg. no. 1093147). Company reg. no 4257716. Registered office 14 Oxford Road, London NW6 5SL. Registered in England. A company limited by guarantee

Ford Green Hall Museum (UK, 1156839) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Ford Green Hall is a 17th century timber-framed farmhouse in Stoke-on-Trent. Every year it offers visitors (including thousands of children on school trips) a fascinating insight into our past. The Museum is also closely connected to the local community via craft workshops utilising original historic methods of production, theme-based activities for children during the school holidays, musical events and local history talks. We are a Charitable Community Group who were set up to save the Museum from closure in 2013 and we now run the Museum and are responsible for maintaining the building. Extensive restoration work undertaken in the 1980's led to many timber repairs involving the installation of timber mouldings which are now in poor condition, leading to water damage of the main beams. The repairs need to be completed within the next year and our lowest quote from a specialist builder is for £20,000. We are appealing for contributions to help preserve this wonderful building so that future generations may enjoy its insight into the way our ancestors lived.
