The Humanimal Trust (UK, 1156927) Browse events

YTD Raised: £50.00

The Humanimal Trust is the first UK charity dedicated to the advancement of “One Medicine”, the simultaneous advance of human and animal healthcare. We work to inspire human and veterinary healthcare professionals to work together to progress and advance healthcare knowledge, to share learnings and to develop joint solutions. We do this through raising awareness of the clear benefits of working together, through formal education initiatives, through fostering collaboration and through the funding of medical research which is of direct clinical relevance to both humans and animals – in areas such as cancer research, orthopaedics, neurology and antibiotic resistance. Founded by Prof. Noel Fitzpatrick, in fulfilment of a lifelong ambition, the Humanimal Trust believes in the right of all living creatures to have a pain-free and functional quality of life. We believe that if we develop medical treatments, we should make them available to all, and we believe that we all bear responsibility for stewardship of our planet and all living things on it. Historically, animals have been used to develop medicines for humans but very little benefit has flowed back towards the animal kingdom. Researchers are finding more and more overlap between animal and human medicine, and The Humanimal Trust will provide the missing piece – the focal point for formal collaboration and joint research between doctors and vets.

Turn to Starboard (UK, 1161201) Browse events

YTD Raised: £50.00

Turn to Starboard is a registered charity using sail training to support Armed Forces personnel affected by military operations. We help retired and serving personnel and their families. At Turn to Starboard we regularly witness that it is easier to share experiences with others who have served in the Forces. By grouping these individuals together, we allow them to begin their journey of readjustment. We aim to help people leaving the Armed Forces gain qualifications that will help them find new careers in the marine industry. When two boats are heading straight towards each other, they avoid collision by following a simple rule of sailing –  turn to starboard (turn to the right). We use sailing to help Armed Forces personnel and their families make the right turn.Based at Falmouth Marina in Cornwall, we are a group of Yachtmasters and volunteers – civilian, ex-service and serving who help military veterans get on the right track. We use Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing courses to support Armed Forces personnel who have been affected by military operations.  We also provide sailing trips to enable Service families who have been affected by operations to spend some time together on a skippered yacht.  Charity No: 1161201 Find out more Website http://www.turntostarboard.co.uk/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/turntostarboard/
