(UK, 247928) Browse eventsClay Cross Foodbank is built on Christian values of compassion, integrity and commitment. Our church based foodbank has engaged the whole community in providing food to local people going hungry. We provide three days (10 balanced meals) of emergency food. Food is given as a result of referrals from registered Care Professionals such as Social Services, Health Visitors, Probation Officers, Church Pastoral Workers, schools and others working in the front line of poverty. Families collect food from one of our centres, where it is packed to match their needs as closely as possible. While they wait we offer drinks, and biscuits or cakes. This allows us time to offer a listening ear and possibly point them towards areas of help in order to break the poverty cycle. We partner with local groups including Citizen’s Advice, Adult Education and other churches to provide help for people to change their circumstances and lift them from needing food support. The foodbank will also support socially disadvantaged or vulnerable people by offering placements to work in the community, whatever their physical or mental condition. We can provide opportunities for those out of work to volunteer, building their confidence and skills and gaining a recent reference.
(UK, SCO15243) Browse eventsGarvald Home Farm is a small community of people, some with a learning disability, living and working together on our organic farm. The Farm is run following biodynamic principles and our produce of meat, milk, vegetables, eggs and wool are certified by the Biodynamic Agriculture Association (BDAA) to organic and Demeter standard. For 30 years work on the farm has provided a variety of meaningful activities and learning opportunities which we hope to expand, offering training and work experience to the wider community. To make our farmyard a safer and more people friendly space to work with large stock and manoeuvre machinery, we plan to divert a road and replace the dilapidated Dutch barn with one set further back. Another shed will be doubled in size providing better shelter for more stock. In the historic farm steading the existing dairy and meat processing facilities will be upgraded, allowing Garvald Home Farm to produce and sell an expanded range of produce to local markets and provide more learning and employment opportunities. We also need to improve the style and capacity of the accommodation. One wing of the farmhouse is due for refurbishment to provide more comfortable and up to date facilities for staff and residents. We propose to address the historic shortage of space for residents by constructing two Scandinavian-style log cabins in the Garden grounds. Garvald Home Farm is looking at an exciting future and we hope very much that you want to be part of it.

We are creating tomorrow’s great citizens today. In our first 10 years (2005-2014) we held campaigns in 12 English counties – Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Suffolk and North, South and West Yorkshire plus the whole of Scotland, In 2014 we held our first YOPEY in Greater London. Our ultimate aim is to hold campaigns across the whole of the UK. At the end of each campaign we hold an awards ceremonies at which the very best young citizens are giving cash awards to invest in their community projects. They received YOPEYs – ‘Oscars’ for young people who give to others. In our first 10 years we awarded young people about £150,000. We are also trialing befriending schemes where we are linking schools with care homes. The young volunteers are given training to relate to elderly people with dementia. YOPEY has mainly been supported by companies as part of their corporate social responsibility, but this VirginMoneyGiving page has been set up to enable the contestants in Miss Norwich and Miss Ipswich, and Mr Norwich and Mr Ipswich, to fundraise for YOPEY as part of their bids to represent their county town in the annual Miss England contest.. But anyone is welcome to fundraise for YOPEY using VirginMoneyGiving as a way to authenticate what you are doing and ensure your sponsors’ money reaches this charity, without any commission being taken by VirginMoneyGiving.
