NSW Farmers has set up a drought relief appeal to collect donations for farmers in NSW affected by drought. It will make $100 gift cards available through IGA stores to farmers affected by drought. With large areas of the state experiencing dry or drought conditions and with some people reporting their lowest rainfalls in over 60 years, failed seasons are causing severe financial hardship for farmers across NSW. Farmers face an ongoing battle of maintaining their farm and providing for their families. To assist those farmers in NSW that are experiencing drought, NSW Farmers has set up an appeal to collect donations. Donations will go directly to drought affected farmers across NSW for the cost of groceries. Funds will be used to purchase $100 gift cards from IGA supermarkets. These cards will be provided to the Salvation Army for distribution through its rural chaplains to drought affected farmers in NSW. Farmers do not have to be a member of NSW Farmers to be able to receive a gift card.

'Messenger of Hope' Kaptembwa is one of the largest slum areas located in Nakuru, Kenya. The 2007/08 political uprising saw the garbage-ridden lane ways and roads lined with mutilated bodies, death and destruction leaving widows, orphaned children and thousands homeless. Combined with a famine not experienced since 1984 many see only darkness, no way out, no future and no hope. The slums of Nakuru continue to swell, a 'hand out' serves only as a band aid and poor living conditions, starvation and death will not 'go away' without long term planning, commitment and a firm belief that a difference can be made. To provide food, educate and counsel those who are destitute, hungry and illiterate. Our programs: •Literacy classes • Guidance and Counseling •Trades: Dressmaking and Tailoring •Home visitations •Food Program Through education, monitoring progress and commitment, return those who are destitute, starving and illiterate back into a society where their voices can be heard and they can regain dignity and self respect. The Project aims to procure property to grow food for the starving and provide shelter to those who no longer have a home, family or the will to survive. Operated 100% by volunteers and donations. A not-for-profit charity with ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
