Save A Dog Scheme VIC (AU, 71887339646) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

Save-A-Dog Scheme (SADS) is a community-based not-for-profit animal welfare organisation that saves hundreds of dogs and cats from being killed every year. We have a no-kill philosophy and provide veterinary care to sick or injured animals so they can live out their natural lifespan.   SADS was established in 1985 to offer a humane alternative to the killing of unwanted dogs, especially dogs of good temperament, that would otherwise be destroyed at pounds and shelters.   Save-A-Dog Scheme is an incorporated, non-profit, community-based organisation controlled and operated by volunteers with the help of paid staff. It operates as a registered animal shelter and combines this with foster care in the community. Each dog is desexed, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, vet-checked and temperament-assessed prior to adoption.   Save-A-Dog Scheme has a no kill philosophy and believes that the dichotomy of a dog being "Mans Best Friend" on the one hand and an unwanted article for destruction on the other is totally unacceptable. Save-A-Dog Scheme is a "coal-face" organisation, which saves hundreds of dogs each year and which seeks, by example, to provide a better way of treating non-human animals.   Save-A-Dog Scheme relies on donations for its continuing existence and does not receive any government funding. Donations to Save-A-Dog Scheme help with the general care of the dogs and the maintenance of the organisation. The greatest expense is for veterinary treatment for the dogs, which includes the care of sick and injured dogs. These dogs are nursed back to health rather than being destroyed as they may be elsewhere.   Save-A-Dog Scheme is based in Melbourne at a state-of-the-art facility in Glen Iris that functions as a regional pound and (virtually) no-kill shelter. Opened in October 2006, the building is owned by Stonnington Council and operated by Save-A-Dog Scheme.   In mid-2009 we purchased our own property in Yarrambat, just north of the city. It currently operates as a boarding kennel and cattery so we're busy with plans to modify the existing facilities to comply with our shelter code. Once operational, Yarrambat will work in addition to, and in conjunction with, our Glen Iris home.

YTD Raised: $0.00

Pets Haven Foundation is a facility that re-homes orphan felines and canines, who would otherwise have no future Pets Haven Foundation does not offer pound services, we would never release our pen or cage space out for such services. We choose to rescue from pounds as we would not want to be compromised in any manner. We believe in Pro Life and endeavour to responsibly rehouse companion pets back into our community where they belong. Animals are rescued from death row pounds, cruelty cases, puppy farms and the community. Animals that do not require rehabilitation are kept at our shelter whilst waiting to be adopted into new homes. Animals which require rehabilitation are placed into approved foster homes, with all medical and like expenses paid by Pets Haven. Once the animal has recovered, the animal is placed up for adoption. We also take in unwell animals and cruelty cases and we provide the required veterinary treatment and after care. The animals that come to us mistreated, malnourished, abused or neglected often require extensive medical treatment and we always provide what they require to recover. Foster carers help immensely as they provide a wonderful, safe, loving home environment where the rehabilitation process can occur. All animals in our care are vet checked desexed, vaccinated, micro chipped, wormed, given flea treatments, dogs are tested for parvovirus and all animals are scanned for ringworm. Every animal is temperament tested prior to arrival at the shelter. The staff and volunteers then spend time getting to know each animal so that they can help prospective adopters make an educated decision on whether the animal they are interested in is suitable for them. If a Pets Haven member does not think an adoption is appropriate, the adoption will not proceed. The correct environment, home, lifestyle and family for our animals are our greatest concerns. Our animals have already gone through enough pain and uncertainty; they need homes that will last a lifetime. Thank you for providing support to our Pro Life non for profit organisation.. First Option – Is Adoption.
