Shutlanger Village Hall is raising money to help with its upkeep and renovation. Shutlanger Village Hall is a beautiful building in our Village with a colourful history, it has been used as a school, it has a chapel attached to it which is used monthly. It is also one of the only amenities of our village being used for hire of parties, however more importantly it is a venue where the community gets together for social events such as coffee mornings quiz night and keep fit classes.
Like many waterway-based charities, the Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society, is unable to offer public boat trips and other canal-based activities during the current Coronavirus pandemic. We’re hoping to generate donations to help us replace the income that we would have generated in our main operating season, from April – October. Our charity provides opportunities for communities and local people who enjoy the many aspects of our canal network. Canals – and our boat trips - support the health and well-being of the many people who visit them, as well as providing valuable tourist and community facilities. We help to maintain the section of the Union Canal between Bridges 19 and 40, taking in the towns and villages of Broxburn, Winchburgh and Philpstoun. The wealth of history and many points of interest along this stretch are highlighted here: https://sway.office.com/P67Wx3T38wg0Fcve?ref=email

Our Warm Welcome (OWW) St Helens offers friendship and practical support to new asylum seekers and refugees by helping them to integrate into our community - we call these people "Our "Friends". We have raised funds to set up a regular meeting place that welcomes "Our Friends" and facilitates links with professionals – such as the British Red Cross - who offer support. We also teach basic English skills and distribute clothing, household items and food as needs require.

There is an increasing body of research available that recognises the important role parents play in their children’s education and the link this has to the child’s success in school. The PFA (Parents and Friends Association) is a valuable asset to the school and can be a source of innovation and can also help provide additional people to help deliver an event, project or initiative. School’s are increasingly looking at ways to increase income and our PFA fully supports that and raised over £3,000 last year which the children have asked to be spent on new equipment for the playground and tablets for the classroom Bearwood School Parents Friends Association is a registered charity. (UK, XT23768) Browse eventsWe train people in suicide prevention skills so that people at risk of suicide are identified and linked to the professional help that in most cases will save their life. We have five programmes and we never charge people for attending our programmes. Our Preventing suicides in Your Community Programme was the first accredited suicide prevention training in the UK or Ireland. Our newest programme is Mind Your Mate - it gives 16 - 24 year olds the skills to save their friends from suicide - it was developed because of the dramatic increase in young people taking their own lives. We also provide outreach support to those at risk of suicide - calling to peoples houses who are too distressed to travel to help. We will accompany suicidal people to the hospital and medial appointments so that they get the help they need - too many at risk people do not attend appointments because their depression stops them. We provide free counselling to suicidal people, depressed non-suicidal people, children bereaved through suicide and adults bereaved through suicide. We do not receive one penny from the government in core grants.
